Our story
—
Our story begins, counterintuitively, with a historic building built in 1867 in Sturgeon Bay, WI. The N.E. Lee House was built by a civil war veteran for his family, and would go on to serve many purposes over the next 150 year, from retail shops, to a Bed & Breakfast, and finally a condominium building in a terrible state of disrepair. In June of 2014, Rob & Suzie purchased two renovated units in the historic building. They lived in one and rented out the other on Airbnb, becoming one of the first in Door County to do so. It was an instant success, that led them to purchasing and renovating other units in the historic Sturgeon Bay home and renting them out to Door County visitors, who were drawn to the modern accommodations and thoughtful design in a historic setting.
Fast forward to 2018, and Rob & Suzie’s properties have earned over 600 5-star reviews from happy guests.
There are many fine choices for accommodations in Door County, but very few that could be described as “contemporary”. Some might even best be described as “dated”. The Flats on Church Street were designed with the modern traveler, and sharing economy in mind. Rob & Suzie enlisted the help of Johnsen Schmaling Architects out of Milwaukee to design a property that combined contemporary design and thoughtful amenities to create space for the modern traveler.
The result is four 1-bedroom/1-bathroom, 500 square foot apartments. Each apartment features a small kitchen, a plush king-sized bed and a queen-sized sleeper sofa. Large sliding glass doors open on to private patio with gas fire pits. The units are air-conditioned for hot Door County summers, and feature in-floor radiant heat to keep travelers warm during romantic winter getaways.
